Last days in Thailand March 18 - 19, 2019

We enjoyed Monday and Tuesday, March 18 and 19, in Bangkok.  Monday we took the water taxi and went to the Grand Palace.  There were a LOT of people!  The complex is very large and with all of the people it was very crowded.  We walked around and then decided to take the fast route out.

Our entrance ticket to the Grand Palace also included a ticket to see a Thai theatrical musical.  We spent about 40 minutes walking to the building.  The production was one of our highlights of our time in Bangkok.

We took the water taxi back to our hotel and enjoyed a traditional Thai meal.  The hotel has only six rooms and only cooks meals for the people who are staying there.  Barbie had Thai yellow curry with pineapple (in the bowl), and chicken and rice and Jeff had Thai chili pork salad.  The food was plentiful and good.

We spent the evening watching the barges, tourist boats and water taxis on the river right from our room.  We really enjoyed our waterside view.

Tuesday evening was our departure day to start the trip back to Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C.  We decided to take the water taxi as far north as it went, looking at the buildings.

We then took the taxi south to the Bangkok China town. Jeff had seen lobsters on our bike tour and wanted to have one.  We found the restaurant.  Barbie ordered fried shrimp and spring rolls.  Jeff ordered the lobster.  Barbie's food came quickly.  However, we waited at least 30 minutes for Jeff's lobster.  Eventually we asked our server about it and somehow in our ordering and language communications, his lobster was NOT ordered.  He was VERY disappointed.

We walked back to our hotel.  When we were on the bicycle tour we had seen the shops that had engine parts.  Our guide said that after WWII the Japaneses left their vehicles behind and the Thai people took the engines apart and made new engines out of them.  We saw several of the boats that had these rebuilt engines.

We again were greeted with an iced herbal drink when we returned to our hotel.  We had about 3 hours until a taxi would to take us to the Bangkok airport.  We ordered dinner and took a refreshing shower while we waited.

The taxi ride to the airport was uneventful.  However, we were glad that we were not trying to drive.

We did not use a travel agent.  Other than the time we were on the boat, Jeff had researched things to do and ways to get around.  He is THE BEST travel agent.  He knows what we enjoy doing, he researched the best places for us to go and made the arrangements for all transportation and connections.  We NEVER experienced any snafus.  Everything went beautifully.  We had a wonderful time, lovely experiences and made great memories.  BTW, Jeff and I have known each other for 50 years and will be married 50 years on January 1, 2020.  This was a great way to celebrate being in love for 50 years!
